Youth basketball training · Woodbridge & Scotch Plains, NJ
Personal, semi-group, group and team training for boys and girls at every age and stage of the game, from first-time dribblers to Division I prospects.
Our goal
Basketball is supposed to be fun. Sometimes, even in our best attempts to parent, we forget that simple fact. As coaching relationships develop with our athletes, another bond forms between our staff and parents. We work with families to make space for kids to have their own experiences, failures and setbacks, so they build the confidence to problem-solve, grow, and excel on the court and in life.
My goal is to not just raise these young adults to be athletes, but to grow in character as they perfect their game. Raise them to be part of the village that lends a hand.
Peter Marston, Owner & Head Coach
Ways to train
One-on-one sessions built around your athlete and your family's schedule. Our staff puts together a unique plan for every training level: targeted work that optimizes a player's abilities when focused attention is what they need.
Kept intimate so coaches can grow every player's game. Individual and team game-situation drills are introduced and mastered: pick and roll, screening, cutting, reading defenses, ball handling and passing.
The classic intro to the Marston Athletics program. A disciplined approach to drills that uses all the senses, plus scrimmages and our three dribble rule. Players learn to share the court and lift up their teammates while developing their own skills.
At our facility or your home court. A fresh perspective and voice for your existing program. We partner with your coaches, focus on specific areas, and leave teams more excited and more collaborative than we found them.
Private at-home training is now available: fundamentals, ball handling, shooting, skill work, speed and agility. Pricing varies by location. See private workout options or call Coach Pete.

Founder · Owner · Head Coach
Coach Pete has more than 20 years of coaching, training and scouting athletes, including Kyrie Irving, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Dariq Whitehead, Ben Simmons and many more headed to the NBA and Division I programs.
A native Jamaican, his first love was football (soccer), but he found his passion for hoops after coming to America in the late 80s. He has been teaching since 1997, starting at his alma mater Old Bridge High School, and got his big break working with Kevin Boyle, the former St. Patrick's coach and current head coach of Montverde Academy, who taught him the strategy, creativity and politics of coaching basketball.
He founded Marston Athletics in 2010 to give any child, from any background, the chance to learn and love the game. In 2022 he left his 20-year career to pursue coaching full-time. The program now runs more than two dozen sessions a week, more than a thousand athletes have come through it, and its sister AAU program Marston Elite sent players to a state championship in their first seasons. He is a proud husband and father of four.

Be the best you. In life and on the court, always be the best version of yourself.
Team captain of a GMC Gold Division-winning Perth Amboy Vo-Tech squad and a Middlesex County All-Star, Coach Roman played professionally in the Dominican Republic and spent five years with the Harlem Wizards. He has trained high school and college players at Hoops America for over a decade, coaches the NJ Demons 7th grade boys and 8th grade girls, and has run clinics across New Jersey with Coach Pete for more than four years.

Guard skills · Marston Elite assistant
Love the game. Always go 110%.
A starting point guard at St. John Vianney with elite ball-handling skills, Coach Jahmal joined the basketball program at Georgian Court as a freshman and has been working with Coach Pete for the last four years, including as an assistant with the Marston Elite AAU team.

Skills coach
Division I scholarship player and Hoop Group Camp coach.
Coach Arlen started his basketball career at the Academy of Urban Leadership Charter Schools, then played at a prep school in California before earning multiple offers and a scholarship to play Division I ball in Missouri. He has coached at Hoop Group Camp and has been working with Marston Athletics for three years.

Speed & agility · Strength & conditioning
Give me 1% more than yesterday. 1% better every day will separate you from the rest.
Coaching since 2017, Coach Chris is an assistant basketball coach and the strength and conditioning coach at Arts High School in Newark. He played at Union High School and finished his career at Rutgers-Newark as a shooting guard, a real threat from behind the arc. He also trains athletes at Colosseum Gym and for NJ Give & Go.

Skills coach
Hard work will always pay off.
Playing since age five, Coach Kenny came up through recreational ball and AAU programs along the Jersey Shore before taking his training to Hoops America, the program that produced Thomas Flaherty (Seton Hall) and Nephtaly Cardona (UMFK), where he became a complete, all-around player. He now passes that knowledge to the next generation.

Speed & agility
Hard work builds confidence. Focus on the little things to see the big picture.
Born and raised near Matawan in Monmouth County, Coach Ziare grew up playing basketball, football and baseball, and went on to play varsity football at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania. He brings that multi-sport knowledge to Marston Athletics with a fun learning experience for every player.
Family testimonials
We heard about Marston Athletics from a friend whom we trust completely. Upon meeting Peter we knew right away this was a safe, very competitive, friendly learning environment where our son would thrive. Peter is kind, tough, and genuinely cares about making players better.
The individualized attention to each player is impressive and the feedback is helpful. The coaches are fantastic. My daughter has improved because I see her implementing things learned in her sessions. If you're looking for skill development for your child, Marston Athletics is the place!
Every student-athlete that trains in this program not only becomes successful, they're amongst the best in their divisions. My children's IQ and confidence in the game has grown tremendously, and they've met some amazing peers along the way.
Marston Athletics has taught my son how to deal with situations on the court, which will help him with life situations as well.
